Medical Students from Hasanuddin University (Indonesia) Participate in Training at School of Medicine and University Hospital at University of Toyama
From July 14 to August 8, 2025, ten medical students from Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in Indonesia visited the University of Toyama (UT) to participate in an exchange program. Since signing a university-level academic exchange agreement in 2002, the two universities have continued to engage in educational and research exchanges for over 20 years. This program, conducted for the second time following last year, continues to serve as a valuable opportunity for academic and cultural exchange.
The program featured a wide range of activities, including research training in various laboratories within the School of Medicine, clinical training at the University Hospital, and visits to regional medical institutions. Students received training in a wide range of fields, from basic medicine to clinical medicine, and visited medical facilities both within and outside Toyama Prefecture, to experience the reality of community healthcare.
On the first day of the program, an opening ceremony was held, with welcoming remarks from Dean Nakagawa and Prof. Ito of the School of Medicine. The students also had the opportunity to interact with UT medical students and take part in a campus tour. The students also visited sites such as the Toyama Glass Art Museum and the Itai-itai Disease Museum, gaining deeper insights into the region’s culture and history. A farewell party was held on August 7, where the students reflected on their experiences in Toyama and shared the fruits of their interactions.
A closing ceremony was held on August 8, marking the final day of the program. The students presented the outcomes of their learning and interactions at UT during their stay. Through this program, the academic partnership between UT and UNHAS has been further strengthened, and future developments in international collaboration are highly anticipated.
