Professor Kenji Matsuda Attends Opening Ceremony for PoliTo Japan Hub at Italian Embassy in Tokyo, Exchanges Views with Stakeholders

Politecnico di Torino is Italy’s oldest national university of engineering, excelling in mechanical, electronic, information, materials, and architectural engineering. It is a prestigious science and engineering institution renowned for cutting-edge research and thriving industry-academia collaboration. Professor Marco Actis Grande, who previously served as Vice-Rector at the Politecnico di Torino, is also a Liaison Professor at the University of Toyama and engages in joint research and researcher exchanges with Aluminium Research Center, University of Toyama.

In this context, Polytechnico di Torino, a crucial partner for our university and particularly for the Faculty of Sustainability Design, has established its first academic office in Japan, located in Tokyo. At the opening ceremony held at the Italian Embassy in Japan on Monday, 29 September 2025, Professor Kenji Matsuda from our university attended and exchanged views on future educational and research exchanges with Prof. Stefano Paolo Corgnati, Rector of Politecnico di Torino, and Ms Elena Chiolino, Vice President of the Piedmont Region where the university has its campus.

Professor Kenji Matsuda also attended the event “Scientific Pathways from Turin to Osaka: A Cross-Cultural Collaboration Series” held at the Italian Pavilion of the Osaka Expo on Friday, 2 October. There, he held discussions with Giuseppe Quaglia, Director of PoliTo Japan Hub, regarding cooperation on joint research between the Italian research group and the University of Toyama.

Professor Matsuda commented that he gained confidence that the research collaboration, centred on the Departments of Materials Design Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin and the University of Toyama, would develop into a cooperative relationship addressing multi-layered scientific and technological challenges, ranging from environmental sustainability to architecture and urban design.
