Delegation from Shenyang Pharmaceutical University Visits University of Toyama

From July 28 to August 1, 2025, the delegation from Shenyang Pharmaceutical University (SPU) in China, consisting of 12 students and 2 accompanying faculty members, visited the University of Toyama (UT). This visit was conducted under the University Exchange Relationships and served as a valuable opportunity to deepen academic collaboration and cultural understanding.

On July 28, an opening ceremony was held at the Center for Innovation in Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, where Professor Matsuya, Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, introduced our university. This was followed by a greeting from Lecturer Li Sikai of SPU, who is also an alumnus of our university.  Afterward, the delegation toured the Experimental Station for Medicinal Plant Research and participated in exchange activities with UT students, during which students from both universities shared their campus experiences and enjoyed cultural interaction.

During the visit, the students from SPU were divided into two groups and visited six laboratories within the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Institute of Natural Medicine. They observed cutting-edge research and facilities and had the opportunity to receive direct guidance from faculty members. In addition, they visited pharmaceutical-related facilities in Toyama City and the Toyama Glass Art Museum, gaining insights into the region’s traditional medicine and culture.

At the closing ceremony held on August 1, Director Tohda of the Institute of Natural Medicine delivered a speech, followed by training reports from the visiting students. The delegation expressed strong interest in the research conducted in UT and were deeply impressed by Toyama’s beautiful scenery and warm hospitality.

Since 2012, SPU and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of UT have implemented a recommendation-based admission program, through which several students enroll at UT each year. During this short-term visit, some students expressed increased interest in applying to the program in coming years. We are pleased that this exchange has positively influenced their future academic decisions, and we look forward to further strengthening ties between our institutions.
