International Student Exchange Event: Summer! @ Organization for International Education and Exchange

On the afternoon of July 8, OIEE held an international student exchange event, featuring flowing somen noodles (nagashi somen) and watermelon-smashing (suika wari).

Starting with cutting bamboo from the bamboo grove to create the stream for the noodles, international and Japanese students worked together to prepare for the event. On the day of the event, over 50 students participated and had a great time, even as they struggled to catch the flowing somen with their chopsticks.

To wrap things up, participants took on the challenge of smashing a watermelon while blindfolded and holding a stick. Directions flew back and forth in various languages from the spectators.

Through this traditional Japanese summer event, everyone enjoyed a wonderful cultural experience.
