A delegation from Thailand, comprising representatives from the National Metal and Materials Technology Center, the National Science and Technology Development Agency, LPN Metallurgical Research Center Co., Ltd., and King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, visited the University of Toyama(UT). The delegation paid a courtesy visit to UT, participated in the signing of an academic exchange agreement, and attended a special commemorative lecture hosted by the University.

Visit to the International Institute for Advanced Aluminum Materials
On May 19, the delegation visited the International Institute for Advanced Aluminum Materials at Takaoka Campus. During the visit, The delegation was introduced to the institute’s initiatives and research facilities, including demonstrations of demonstrations of melting and refining system of aluminum operated by our researchers and the 400 MT direct double-action extrusion press.
The delegation showed strong interest in the state-of-the-art equipment and engaged in active discussions in front of the facilities while observing their operation.

Courtesy Visit and Signing of Academic Exchange Agreement
On May 20, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the President of UT and attended the signing ceremony of an academic exchange agreement. The ceremony concluded in a cordial atmosphere, with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo session.

Special Commemorative Lecture (4th ISLMT 2026)
Following the ceremony, UT hosted a special commemorative lecture titled:
“Trends in Next-Generation Lightweight Materials: Applications in Industrial Components, Medical Devices, and Pharmaceuticals,”
held at Gofuku Campus, with attendance from the Thai delegation.
The lecture opened with remarks by Prof. Shigeru Saito, President.

“Current Status and Future Outlook of the Aluminum Industry in Thailand.”

Prof. Takuya Ishimoto (Deputy Director, Aluminum Research Center)
presented on the latest research activities at their respective institutes.
Panel Discussion
The event concluded with a panel discussion chaired by Special Advisor to the President, Prof. Kuniaki Dohda, under the theme:
“Future Technology Development and Collaboration in Lightweight Materials Applications.”
Active discussions were held on strengthening cooperation between Thailand and Japan, accelerating academic exchange between Thai institutions and UT, and promoting collaboration among participating organizations to lead next-generation innovations.
In closing remarks, Prof. Hideki Sakai, Executive Vice President expressed appreciation, and the event concluded successfully.
Through such initiatives, We expect to further promote international collaboration in cutting-edge research and contribute to achieving global sustainability goals.
