Annual Medical Exam

Health administration center makes available to international students such medical services as medical exams, health information and consulting. The schedule may vary between campuses. Details are available at the department of Health Services on each campus. The main schedule for medical exams is as follows:

April Medical exams for freshmen
Periodic health check-ups for students
Chest x-ray examination for students
May Reexamination
Health Consultation

At the Center, general health consultation is available throughout the year.

Health administration center

The Center’s purpose is to maintain and improve the health of students and university staff members at Gofuku, Sugitani and Takaoka Campuses. The doctors, counselors and nurses are available for health consultation, medical examination and first aid care. (Counselors of Takaoka Campus are non-full-time.) Please contact the Center’s reception desk for more information. It is open from 8:30 to 17:00.

Student Consultation Service

To support your university life, Gakusei Sodan Shitsu (Student Consultation Desk) provides consultationservice on any concerns or problems you have, such as:

  • I don’t know who to consult with.
  • I cannot adapt myself to university life.
  • I have an academic problem.
  • I have a relationship problem.

Student Accident Insurance (“GAKKENSAI” and “GAKKENBAI”)

The following two types of insurance are offered by the nation-wide mutual-aid insurance system for students. All the students of the University of Toyama are required to purchase both of them in case of accidents.

Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research (“GAKKENSAI”) This insurance covers hospital stays of one day or more. Physical injuries of one day or more suffered during regular curricular activities, 4 days or more suffered during the commute to school, and 14 days or more suffered during extracurricular activities are also covered.

Personal Liability Insurance for Students (“GAKKENBAI”) This insurance covers the liability for injuring others or damaging their property during regular curricular activities, school events, and extracurricular activities and so on.

The annual premium for the both is 1,340 yen (daytime-class students) or 790 yen (night-class students). For details and application procedure, please contact the following department in charge at each campus:

National Health Insurance

All international students must join the National Health Insurance Plan. By joining this insurance plan, students will be charged only 30% of their full medical expenses. A single medical treatment costs from a few thousand yen to ten thousand yen for full medical expenses. Please apply for this plan with residence card at the city office.
Another system also assists with part of the insurance cost (Toyama Prefectural National Health Insurance Grant). For details, please see the application information which will be posted on the bulletin board on each campus around the application time.
