The University of Toyama Library consists of three branches:
- Central Library (Gofuku Campus)
- Medical and Pharmaceutical Library (Sugitani Campus)
- Art and Culture Library (Takaoka Campus)
These libraries serve as the foundation for academic information at the university and fulfill the following three roles:
1. Providing Academic Information for Research
The libraries offer access to electronic journals, literature databases, and e-books to support faculty and graduate students in their research. They also promote the dissemination of research through the university’s academic repository, ToRepo.
2. Supporting Learning for Students
The libraries collect and provide materials necessary for undergraduate and graduate students, including textbooks related to classes and electronic resources. They also support information literacy education to help students effectively utilize these resources.
3. Creating a Comfortable Learning Environment
The libraries offer various learning spaces to accommodate individual study, group work, and media-based learning. These include:
- The Central Library:Refreshment & Communication Zone, Active Learning Zone, Presentation Zone
- The Medical & Pharmaceutical Library:Group Study Rooms
- The Art and Culture Library:C-lab, C-Room, C-Zone, Study room
Library Features
- Support for Education and Learning:The libraries maintain collections of textbooks, reference books, beginner guides, and materials for international students.
- Electronic Library Services:Access to electronic journals and databases such as Scopus, SciFinder, and CiNii.
- Academic Repository:“ToRepo” repository shares the university’s research outputs, including rare materials from the Hearn Collection.
- Community Engagement:The Medical and Pharmaceutical Library offers services to local medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies, including lending and access to electronic journals.
- Public Library Collaboration:The libraries cooperate with Toyama Prefectural Library and other public libraries for resource sharing.
- Extended Hours:All three libraries offer extended evening hours and weekend openings.
