式辞
皆様、富山大学への入学、誠におめでとうございます。教職員を代表して式辞を述べさせていただきます。さて、新型コロナウイルス感染第８波の中、大学入学共通テスト並びに一般選抜前期、後期日程を執り行うことができました。その結果、本日、令和５年度入学式において、学部入学生1,848名、大学院入学生558名、総勢2,406名の皆さんを富山大学にお迎えすることができました。
皆さんとの新しい出会いの日を迎えること、私ども大学の教職員にとっては大きな喜びであり、富山大学を代表し、心よりお祝いを申し上げます。また、ご来賓の方々には、ご臨席を賜り厚く御礼申し上げます。
Since we have international students here today, I would like to give a short congratulatory message also in English.
First of all, as the president of the University of Toyama, I welcome you all and give my warmest congratulations.
富山大学は、９学部及び附属病院や和漢医薬学総合研究所、先進軽金属材料国際研究機構、未病研究センター、アイドリング脳科学研究センター、技藝院など複数の教育・研究施設に、9,000名余の学生と2,00名余の教職員が集う総合国立大学です。富山大学の歴史の原点は、現在の教育学部の前身となる新川県師範学校が発足した1875年／明治８年に遡ります。その後2005年、当時の富山県内３国立大学（富山大学、富山医科薬科大学、高岡短期大学）が統合し、現在の富山大学が誕生しています。本年が統合後18年となります。
Our university was established in 1875. After that, Toyama University, Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University and Takaoka National College were integrated in 2005.
Our university houses 9 faculties, University hospital, Institute of Natural Medicine based on the fusion of Eastern and Western medicine, Institute of Light Metals, Research Center for Pre-Disease Science, Research Center for Idling Brain Science and Research Center for Cultural Property Conservation and New Creative Technologies.
There are about 9,000 students and about 2,300 faculty members.
まず、学部１年生の教養教育を五福キャンパスで一元化して行いますので、９学部の学生が一同に会して学ぶこととなります。どうか総合大学のメリットを活かして、学生同士の学部を跨ぐ交流を深めていただきたいと思います。２年生以降は、五福・杉谷・高岡の３キャンパスに分かれて専門教育を受けることになります。
First of all, the liberal arts education of the first-year undergraduate students will be unified at the Gofuku Campus, so students from nine faculties will meet and learn together.
It is my hope that you will take advantage of the benefits of a comprehensive university and encourage more cross-faculty interaction among students.
From the second year onward, you will be divided into three campuses (Gofuku, Sugitani, and Takaoka) to receive specialized education.
大学院では、昨年より、文系の修士課程を一つにした人文社会芸術総合研究科を立ち上げ、文理融合となる持続可能社会創成学環を新たに開設しました。この学環では、SDGs並びにデータサイエンスを学べます。理系の全てを含む医薬理工学環も新設され、創薬・製剤工学、応用和漢医薬学、認知・情動脳科学、メディカルデザインを学べます。総合医薬学研究科と理工学研究科とともに、大学院教育を充実していきますので、学生諸君と教員とで研究成果をあげたいと思っています。今日、入学された学部１年生の皆様には、４年で卒業という進路以外に、大学院進学という道もあることを考えていただきたいと思います。大学院へ入学された新入生は、ぜひとも研究成果を出していただき、これらを纏めて発表して下さい。
Last year, the Graduate School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences was established, integrating the master’s degree programs in the humanities, and the Graduate School of Sustainability Studies, which integrates the humanities and sciences, and students can study the SDGs and data science.
The Graduate School of Pharma-Medical Sciences has also been newly established, where students can study Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Applied Natural Medicine, Cognitive and Emotional Neuroscience, and Medical Design.
Together with Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, we will enhance graduate education, so I would like to produce research results with students and faculty members.
For first-year undergraduate students who have enrolled today, I would like you to consider the possibility of entering graduate school in addition to the path of graduation in four years. For new students who have entered graduate school, we encourage you to compile and present your research results.
さて、この数年で社会は大きく変化しています。これまでは個人で課題解決してきましたが、多くの事が高度に専門化されたため、独自に優れた能力ある人達が多職種で協力して、課題解決するように変化しています。新しい体制に適応するためには、アクティブラーニング、データサイエンス、英会話が必須となります。このため、富山大学では、アクティブラーニング（課題解決型授業）、データサイエンス、英語教育の３つを特に重視して教育を行っています。アクティブラーニングでは、仲間と話し合い、教員の意見を参考にしながら、異なる学部の学生達で課題を解決するという形の講義です。高校時代の受動的な学びではなく、自らが積極的にデータ収集し、課題を抽出し、学部の異なる学生の意見も取り入れ、解決策を見つけ出すという「学び」です。大学での講義を通じて、自らの教養を高め、ディスカッションを通じて企画、立案、解決策を見出し、人間性を高めていただきたいと思います。そのことが新しいイノベーションを生み、社会を変革することになります。
もう一つの強化項目のデータサイエンスですが、データを収集し、それらを数理学的手法により解析するのみならず、課題を抽出し、解決策を見出し、プレゼンテーションし、課題解決のため行動するという一連の過程をデータサイエンスと言います。富山大学では、令和２年度より、１年生全員にデータサイエンスを必修科目とし、令和３年度には、文部科学省からデータサイエンスリテラシーレベルの認定を受けました。更に学びたい方には、データサイエンス寄附講座を経済学部に開講しています。どの学部の学生も参加できるので、ぜひとも受講してみて下さい。富山県企業から持ち込まれた課題を、データサイエンスの立場から、複数の学部の学生、データサイエンスに造詣が深い教員、企業の社員と一緒に解決するという実践型教育です。また、文理融合大学院（大学院持続可能社会創成学環）にも社会データサイエンスプログラムを開設したので、是非大学院でもデータサイエンスを深く学んで下さい。今、日本ではDX化の促進のため、特にデータサイエンス人材が求められていますので、きっと将来に大学で学んだことが活かされると思います。
Society has changed dramatically over the past few years. We used to solve problems individually, but many things have become so highly specialized that we are now solving problems through inter-professional collaboration among uniquely talented people. Active learning, data science, and English conversation are essential to adapt to the new system.
For this reason, our university places particular emphasis on active learning (problem-solving classes), data science, and English education. In active learning, it is a lecture in which we discuss with colleagues and solve problems by ourselves while referring to the opinions of teachers.
Through lectures at universities, I would like them to enhance their own education, find plans, and solutions through discussions, and enhance their humanity. This will lead to new innovations and transform society.
Data science is a series of processes in which data is collected, analyzed by mathematical methods, problems are extracted, and solutions are found.
Data science has been a required subject for all first-year students since 2020, and in 2021, we received certification from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for the level of data science literacy. For those who wish to learn more, the School of Economics offers an endowed course in data science. Students from any faculty are welcome to participate.
This is a practical education program in which students from several faculties, faculty members with a deep knowledge of data science, and company employees work together to solve problems brought to them by companies in Toyama Prefecture from the standpoint of data science.
We have also established the Social Data Science Program in the Graduate School of Sustainability Studies, so I hope that you will also study data science in depth in graduate school.
I am sure that you will be able to make use of what you have learned at university in the future, especially since data scientists are in high demand in Japan now to promote DX.
新型コロナウイルス感染症により、Webによる遠隔会議が普及し、世界各地の方々と同時にお話しができるようになりました。そのため、英会話は極めて重要となります。１年生の皆様には、入学直後にTOEIC試験を行い、現時点での英会話能力を判定します。大学で英語を学習した後、１月に再度TOEIC試験を行い、上達度をチェックします。昨年度は、試験の点数が大きく改善されました。成績優秀で希望者には、春休みを利用した富山大学連携校である海外の大学へ短期入学していただき、海外の文化や教育に触れる機会を提供いたします。また、最大６０名までに、富山大学基金から１名あたり１０万円の海外留学の補助をさせていただきます。ぜひとも短期海外研修にチャレンジして下さい。英会話の自習システム（アルク）も使えますので、どうか講義以外に自習で自らの能力を高めて下さい。
With the new coronavirus infection, web conferencing has spread, and it is now possible to talk with people from all over the world at the same time. Therefore, English education is extremely important. For first-year students, the TOEIC exam will be held immediately after enrollment to determine their current English conversation ability. After studying at university, the TOEIC exam will be held again in January to check your progress. Last year, exam scores were greatly improved.
We will provide an opportunity for applicants with outstanding grades to experience foreign culture and education by enrolling in a University of Toyama partner university overseas for a short period of time during spring break.
Up to 60 students will receive a subsidy of 100,000 yen per student from the University of Toyama Foundation for their overseas study. We encourage you to take up the challenge of short-term overseas training.
Students can also use the self-study system (ALC) for English conversation, so please enhance your own skills through self-study in addition to lectures.
日本経済団体連合会、中央教育審議会、教育未来創造会議では、社会が大きく変化してきているので、大学教育を改革することを提言しています。改革は大きく７つに分けられますが、①文理融合教育、②データサイエンス・ＡＩ教育、③課題解決型教育、④グローバル化に対応した大学教育、海外留学、⑤キャリア教育、⑥起業家教育、⑦リカレント教育の推進です。先程述べました富山大学の取り組む姿勢と全く一致しています。富山大学では、大学教育を新しい形に変えることで、多くの企業、行政機関、社会から求められる人材を輩出し、地域貢献したいと願っています。
新しい変革時代への対応に向けて、富山大学入学後、自らを大きく成長させ、社会に求められる人材となり、社会で活躍できるように切磋琢磨して下さい。教職員は、皆様を全力でサポートいたします。
The Japan Business Federation proposed university education reforms, including educational content that should be emphasized.
It can be roughly divided into seven categories: (1) integrated education in humanities and sciences, (2) data science and AI education, (3) problem-solving education, (4) university education corresponding to globalization, (5) career education, (6) entrepreneurship education, and (7) recurrent education.
Our University hopes to produce the human resources required by many companies.
We hope that after entering the University of Toyama, you will grow and develop yourself in a friendly competition so that you will become a person who is sought by society and active in it, as you prepare for the new era of change. Our faculty and staff will do their utmost to support you.
また、学問の進歩が急速に進むようになったため、在学中に学んだことが、10年もすると古くなってしまいます。このため、社会に出てから大学で新しいことを学び直すリスキリングが求められています。是非とも大学在学中に「学ぶ」ことのおもしろさを体験していただき、生涯学習の習慣をつけていただきたいと思います。欧米では、リスキリングが当たり前となっていることを認識していただくと共に、リスキリングが必要となれば、卒業してから富山大学で学び直していただきたいと思っています。
勉強以外に、課外活動を含む大学生活は、一生の友人または一生の師ができる人生にとって貴重な時間です。５月からは新型コロナウイルスに対する対応も変わっていきますので、課外活動にも積極的に参加できるようになる予定です。他学部の学生との交流、先輩との交流、教職員との交流により、交友関係を是非とも深めて下さい。入学生の多くは、県外出身者ですので、どうか富山県のいろいろな所に出かけて自然や文化を楽しみ、富山県を第２の故郷になるよう学生生活をエンジョイして下さい。約1/4の県内出身者の学生諸君は、県外出身者の新入生が快適に富山で生活できるようサポートして下さい。
In addition, academic progress has become so rapid that what students learn while in school becomes outdated after 10 years.
For this reason, reskilling to relearn new things at university after entering society is required.
We hope that you will experience the fun of “learning” while you are still in college and develop the habit of lifelong learning.
We would like to make you aware that reskilling is the norm in Europe and the U.S., and if reskilling becomes necessary, we would like you to relearn it at the University of Toyama after you graduate.
In addition to studying, college life, including extracurricular activities, is a valuable time for a life of friends or a master for life.
From May, the response to the COVID-19 will change, so students will be able to actively participate in extracurricular activities.
Please deepen your friendship by interacting with students from other faculties, interacting with seniors, and interacting with faculty and staff.
Many of the incoming students are from outside the prefecture, so please enjoy your student life in Toyama by visiting the areas of Toyama Prefecture, enjoying the nature and culture, and making Toyama Prefecture your second home.
We hope that about one-fourth of the incoming students are from within Toyama Prefecture, and we ask you to support them so that they can live comfortably in Toyama.
これからの皆様と一緒に学ぶことの「おもしろさ」を実感していただけるよう、我々教職員は全力で支援いたします。また、ご家族の皆様には、お子さんの自立性を尊重しつつ、成長を見守り、応援していただきたいと思います。
We will do our utmost to support you so that you can realize the “fun” of learning with you in the future. I would also like families to watch and support their growth while respecting their children’s independence.
皆さんの学生生活が、実り多いものになることを祈念し、式辞といたします。
