Today, I am very pleased to welcome all of you as new members of the University of Toyama.
Those entering in the autumn semester have come from many different places, both in Japan and from abroad. Each of you brings your own experiences, goals, and dreams.
Your ages, cultural backgrounds, and life journeys may be different. However, I believe that you all share a common desire: to grow through learning and to contribute to society.

For those who are entering graduate school, you will continue your research and deepen your expertise in your chosen field. Through this process, you will develop into specialists.
At the same time, I hope you will build strong networks with students and faculty members from other departments and programs. By connecting with people from different fields, you can learn more and gain new perspectives.
Please take every opportunity to interact with other students, faculty members, and sometimes even people in the local community. By learning together and working together, you can create new ideas and new value.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology encourages national universities to strengthen graduate education and to develop people who can solve problems on their own.
Governments and companies expect graduate students with advanced knowledge and skills to create innovation and contribute to society.
Today, we welcome you to the graduate schools of the University of Toyama. From now on, faculty, staff, and students will work together to deepen learning and research.

University of Toyama is a university that is rooted in the local community while connected to the world.
Toyama Prefecture is blessed with rich natural surroundings. It is also home to advanced manufacturing industries, pharmaceutical industries, and aluminum-processing industries.
University of Toyama works closely with these industries and contributes to the development of the region.
I encourage you to learn not only in classrooms and laboratories, but also in the community. Please meet people from different backgrounds, visit companies, and experience real-world challenges.
These experiences will broaden your perspective and help you grow as individuals.

In recent years, generative AI has rapidly become part of our society. It is now used in education, research, healthcare, industry, government, and many other fields.
Generative AI is not just a useful tool. It is a technology that may change the way society works.
At the same time, generative AI cannot create truly original ideas from nothing. New ideas always begin with human creativity.
As students of the University of Toyama, I hope you will develop the ability to create something new, to think for yourselves, to make sound decisions, and to act responsibly while making effective use of generative AI.
I sincerely hope that you will grow into people who can lead society in the future.

When we look around the world, we see continuing conflicts and tensions in many regions, including Ukraine and the Middle East.
Many lives have been lost, and the daily lives of countless people have been threatened.
These conflicts also affect the global economy, including the prices of energy and food.
Peace is not something that exists automatically. It is a value that each of us must protect and nurture.
To prevent conflict, we need the ability to understand different cultures and values. We need the ability to work together with others. We also need the determination to keep solving problems, even when we face difficulties.
At the University of Toyama, many international students study together. I hope that, in addition to gaining professional knowledge, you will meet many people, work together to solve various challenges, and grow greatly as human beings.
I sincerely hope that you will become individuals who will help shape a better future for society.

With great expectations for the potential of each and every one of you, I conclude my address today.
Thank you, and once again, congratulations on your admission to the University of Toyama.
